Mary Bowen Nokes Landscape Design School Scholarship
Mary Bowen Nokes passed away on December 28, 2021. Everyone in the LDC knew Mary Nokes and Mary knew all of us! She was our heart, soul, mentor, historian and caretaker.
Mary was a Master Consultant in the Landscape Design Council. Mary has served many years on the LDC Board where she was Corresponding Secretary and on the Program Committee when she passed. She was reserved but when she spoke people listened.
She was strong advocate of the school and served as registrar at Landscape Design School for 23 years and continued as an advisor and volunteer for the school after she stepped down in 2018. She encouraged students who had successfully completed two courses in the school to join the Council as provisional members.
One of our members sent this tribute in honor of Mary:
How lucky we were to know such a wonderful lady! Her unfailing kindness and charming, unassuming manner are rarely found combined with such assiduous hard work and absolute competence. She will continue to be a model of how to act under stress. She exuded kindness and friendship in all walks of her precious life.
"The Mary Bowen Nokes Scholarship'' is awarded annually to a student who fulfills the following criteria:
The scholarship is for a Landscape Design School sponsored by the Garden Club Federation in Massachusetts
The student shall have successfully completed two courses in Landscape Design School.
